Uptown Lowdown
The Uptown Lowdown is a vintage jazz dance troupe, directed by Emily Vail. We perform original choreography and classic routines in the style of the 1920s-1940s. Based in Kingston, NY, we perform throughout the Hudson Valley. Interested in having us perform at your event? Contact Emily here.

The Uptown Lowdown honors the tradition of the chorus girl dancers, while working within a modern-day context. We believe in vintage style, not vintage values. We perform to music by women- and BIPOC-led bands. Our choreographies range from sassy showgirl numbers, to feminist protest pieces, to joyful holiday routines. We design most of our costume elements and have collaborated with Karina Dresses and Blue Byrd's Haberdashery and Music in Kingston. Chorus girls dance together as a unit, and we believe that our dance troupe together is much greater than the sum of its parts.
